One of the most important eco issues that is relevant to a huge audience. what can be - practically and affordably - achieved in existing buildings to make them more energy-efficient? Many of us live in homes which we love, but leave a lot to be desired in terms of energy efficiency; the experts at this Eco Workshop will explain the options available to those interested in retrofitting eco technologies into their homes.

David Hilton ExpertAbout David Hilton: David frequently leads seminars, workshops and CPD lectures as well as eco and sustainability training on the self build courses at the National Self Build and Renovation Centre in Swindon.

He has completed various self builds in South Africa and renovations in the UK and has been involved in designing and installing Solar and heat pump systems since the early 1980s. On the technical side, he is Gassafe registered, an accredited installer of Ground Source and Air Source heat pumps and is currently undertaking an MSc Architecture: Advanced Energy and Environmental Studies.

Tim Fenn ExpertAbout Tim Fenn: Tim is a Director of various companies which include P3Eco Ltd, created to fund and facilitate eco developments throughout the UK; Oakwood Builders & Joinery Ltd, which undertakes eco-refurbishments; and ECO2H2O - which focuses on the design and construction of high thermal mass, timber framed eco houses and recently won the Sustainability Award at the Camden Building Quality Awards 2009 for the eco refurbishment of a Victorian Terrace house.

In his role as Managing Director of Green Carbon Construction, a company formed to build new zero carbon homes and supply eco build projects, Tim has been responsible for building some of the first CSH Level 6 houses in the UK.

John DoggartAbout John Doggart: John is Chairman of SEA the Sustainable Energy Academy, a charity dedicated to reducing carbon emissions from the built environment. The SEA "Old Home Superhome" campaign is helping to regenerate old housing into dwellings fit for the 21st Century. The charity has built up a network of 40 houses throughout the UK, all saving at least 60% of their carbon emissions and that are accessible to visitors to learn and be inspired; last year there were over 30,000 visitors. John is also co-founder of EHA the Existing Homes Alliance, and chairs the EHA Finance Working Group.

David Hilton will provide an overview of the various types of retrofit solutions that can be applied to your home, highlighting those that you can easily take yourself and those that are best dealt with by the professionals.
11.30 - 12.00 How to Retrofit Your Home - the Superhomes Way John Doggart
John refers to SEA's award-winning Superhomes campaign, which has transformed forty existing homes to save a minimum 60% of their Carbon footprint. This seminar promises to help you find inspiration for your own home.
12.:15 - 13.15 Green Forum / Housing Mark Kingsley (Mark Kingsley Architects Ltd & AECB Group Leader)
Review of current housing stock with independent advice on how it can be made more energy efficient, renewable energy systems and grants; if implemented making our homes more comfortable to live in and less expensive to run.
13.30 - 14.00 Question Time All Experts
This is your opportunity to quiz the experts and get answers to all your sustainable self build questions.
14.15 - 14.45 New Tricks for Old Bricks: Green Your Existing Home Tim Fenn
How to retrofit your existing home with eco technologies cost-effectively, by looking firstly at your thermal envelope and then taking into account which eco technologies to include and how best to combine them. This seminar is a must-see to ensure you avoid parting with unnecessary cash by installing eco technologies you may not really need.
15.00 - 15.30 Green Extensions & Remodelling Opinder Liddar
To wrap up the day, Opinder takes you on a typical journey of a home remodelling or extension project, advising you how to minimise your energy demands and how to deal with the ever complicated regulations. He will provide some interesting examples of projects along the way.
