£1 billion lost waiting for tradesmen

Waiting for the builders or plumber to turn up can be more than just an annoyance, it can have financial implications if you are taking time off work to stay in for them.

According to research by Churchill, an insurance firm, some £1 billion worth of annual leave is used up every year in the UK by people waiting for tradesmen and this equates to 13.5 million days being taken off for the purpose.

Martin Scott, from the firm, said: "Our research clearly shows there is a hidden cost to householders when having repairs undertaken or receiving deliveries which few of us consider."

The average wage loss for the wait if £116 per person but people continue to do it because they feel the tradesmen will do a better job if they are home while work is being done.

Worryingly though this means that Brits spend about 62 days of their working lives just waiting for repairs or household deliveries to turn up.
