A ground source heating pump could be

Self builders who choose to install a ground source heat pump could save hundreds of pounds a year, it has emerged.

It has been reported that the pump - which uses warmth from the ground - could create savings of between £400 and £800 a year.

Over the course of 30 years this could amount to £24,000.

Installing the system can be a little disruptive, according to PropertyConfidential.com, which means that a self build home is the ideal opportunity to invest in one, as it can be implemented into the build.

Mark Brinkley, author of the Housebuilder's Bible, agrees. He claims that that they work "very well" with new properties.

"The clever thing about ground source heat pumps is the gearing effect they get in pulling most of the heat out of the garden," Mr Brinkley adds.
