Affordable homes plan faces opposition

A new plan to build affordable homes in a Norfolk village has run into opposition from the local parish council.

The parish council at Kenninghall near Diss has said the value of the land on which its current village hall stands would fetch a better price if the land value could be maximised, the Norfolk Eastern Daily Press reports.

It is hoping to achieve this by removing the affordable homes stipulation to ensure any developer buying the land pays more due to the higher value of the new homes.

By acting in this way the council is seeking to fund a more modern, eco-friendly £750,000 replacement for the existing hall.

If the council gets its way, those seeking homes in the area may find the supply of affordable dwellings to be limited.

One solution to the situation could be to adopt the self build method, which could save money.

Another location where a plan to build new homes may be stalled is in Sprotbrough near Doncaster.

The parish council there is opposed to a development of five houses and a block of nine flats on the grounds that its appearance would be out of keeping with the area.
