Affordable housing call in Wales

The National Farmer's Union (NFU) has issued a new call for more affordable housing in Wales.
NFU Cymru president Dai Davies said rural areas needed to have enough homes for employees to buy if the agricultural and industrial sectors of the rural economy were to expand, News Wales reports.
"If we are to grow and expand we must make provision to house the employees necessary to service and progress this expansion," he stated.
He argued this was being stymied by local authorities, suggesting they sometimes gave the impression that their role was to prevent development.
Building new homes in rural Wales was also vital to stop young people leaving and preserve the Welsh language, he added.
Many of those living in rural Wales and other agricultural areas may decide to use the self build method to overcome shortages in available homes.
A GE Money Home Lending report this week stated that the total value of housing equity in Wales at present was £88.4 billion.
