Allotments may be affected by Peterborough building work

Allotment holders in Peterborough are soon to learn the fate of their vegetable gardens with a consultation meeting scheduled by the local council to discuss the building of 25 new homes on the site.

Peterborough City Council have organised a meeting for allotment holders near Itter Park in Walton because the five acre site was designated as housing land two years ago and has been included in the city''s blueprint for the future.

However this would impact on nearby allotments and so Councillor Nick Sandford has being getting behind the local residents.

He said: "Local residents have always wanted this land to be used for something other than housing, but sadly their views were ignored.

"The consultation meeting is to talk allotment holders through the likely impact of a housing development on the site."

He says he wants a full public consultation on the topic while in Exmouth fellow allotment holders have also been angered by their council''s decision not to support a blanket ban on bonfires in the allotments.
