An extension is an opportunity to start from "scratch'

Adding an extension provides existing homeowners with the opportunity to tailor an entire building, according to an expert.
Kevin McCloud, the presenter of self build television programme Grand Designs, said that although extensions provide more space and value, it should also be about bringing other bespoke elements to the project.
The television star and designer said that using an architect to add individual elements to a conservatory or extension was akin to "building from scratch".
At a recent seminar, he explained that by treating the extension as an architectural project that feeds into the rest of your home you can effectively customise the building to create something that you love so much you "do not want to move".
"An opportunity to extend out the back is an opportunity to re-orientate and change the direction of the building so that the sun can heat the building more efficiently," he furthered.
Adding an extension can add almost £14,000 to the value of a typical home, according to fool.co.uk.
