Attacks on Hips continue

Criticism of home information packs (Hips) by the Conservatives has continued as the party urges the government to scrap the controversial packs.

The latest attack has come from Wokingham MP and former secretary of state for Wales John Redwood, who has listed a number of objections to the measure, the Bracknell News reports.

Actions such as speculative marketing and changing estate agent can be deterred on cost grounds, Mr Redwood said.

Last week home secretary Jacqui Smith insisted Hips are not about to be axed, following calls to that effect from a local Conservative spokesperson in her constituency of Redditch.

Ms Smith responded by saying Hips have a beneficial effect on the transparency of transactions, the Redditch Standard reported.

Those who self build their homes can obtain a home in a process that does not involve a seller having to deal with Hips.
