Be green and save money

Financially savvy home owners are going green in order to save money, according to a new study.

PrimeMove, an estate agent, says that Brits are increasingly becoming more concerned about their carbon footprint and are also becoming more interested in saving money through making their homes more efficient.

Some 65 per cent said money was their main motivation in this area with double glazing saving the pennies and insulation also cutting energy bills.

Henry Pyror, founder of PrimeMove, said: "People''s attitudes are not surprising, with the costs of borrowing rising and sky high energy bills, few homeowners have money to spare to invest in what are often expensive energy efficient technologies."

More expensive measures such as rain harvesting, wind turbines and solar panels are less common but energy efficient light bulbs are extremely common, according to the study.

Houses that are being sold after July 1st must have an Energy Performance Certificate included in their Home Information Packs to tell prospective buyers the true values of the home.
