Blairs buy property in need of renovation

Prime minister Tony Blair is a keen collector of property and is just about to buy his fifth property despite it needing a barrage of home improvements.

Mr Blair already owns two flats in Bristol, a constituency home in County Durham and a large house in London''s Connaught Square but now he wants to buy a mews home at the rear of the Connaught Square mansion.

He wants the mews to form a private entrance to the back of his property but the renovation work is set to cost around £100,000 to knock both houses into one.

The Georgian mews property used to be a stable block to the main property and ever since the Blairs bought the larger house they have coveted the house as it adjoins their ground floor kitchen and would provide them with extra office space and a nanny flat.

Mortgage repayments for the pair are now set to reach £20,000 per month and their total mortgage debt is £5 million after adding stamp duty at four per cent.
