Boost for north-west construction workers

Construction workers in the north-west are to see a boost in business this year as the demand for new housing developments and other construction projects grows.

According to new research from ConstructionSkills there are expected to be over 570 new projects coming in across the region in 2007.

This is on top of the many ongoing repair, maintenance and general construction projects that are already taking place.

And over 270 of these projects are believed to be valued at under £2 million, meaning many of the region''s small and medium sized construction companies will be able to benefit.

But ConstructionSkills is urging employers in the north-west to make sure their workers have the up to date skills and experience necessary to fully take advantage of this expected boost in business.

Gwen Caddick, area manager at ConstructionSkills, explained: "The future of the construction industry looks healthy and it is those companies who have staff with the right skills, in the right place, at the right time who stand to capitalise the most."
