Brickies

Wags and footballers'' wives are facing stiff competition in terms of shopping prowess and lavish lifestyles from the spouses of bricklayers and other tradesmen, according to a new report.

YouGov research has found that there are six new social groups expected to emerge within the next decade and one of these is the so-called Bricklayer''s Wives who are funded by their wealthy tradesmen husbands.

They sport designer clothes and traditionally live in areas such as Bracknell Forest, Hillingdon and Three Rivers with five per cent of women interviewed for the survey saying they are hoping to become such a tradesman''s wife.

Peter Williams, from Somerfield supermarket who commissioned the survey, said: "By 2017 the average British neighbourhood will be a far cry from what we see today."

He added that in 2007 people are much more into home design and investing money in property so there is much greater respect and salaries for valuable tradesmen.

Another new group is the Virtual Villagers who escape the city in order to work from home in rural locations such as Aylesbury Vale and south Oxfordshire.
