British tradesmen ''winning back business''

After the initial so-called Do It For Me boom when thousands of Polish tradesmen came to the UK in 2003, it has been reported that their price hikes have led to British tradesmen winning back some lost business.

Pimlico Plumbers in London has reported to thisismoney.co.uk that they are now getting more jobs because the Poles are not as cheap as they were.

This may not last long though as the next countries to gain EU accession, Romania and Bulgaria, are expected to also bring their leak-fixing skills to Britain.

"The prices have gone up because the Eastern Europeans want a higher standard of living than they have been used to," Charlie Mullins from Pimlico Plumbers told the website.

"When they first came on the scene our workers used to find them sleeping overnight on sites. Now they have vans and their own houses and want the same money as us," he added.
