Britons travel '125 miles' for perfect property

Britons travel

The average Briton has travelled 125 miles in order to move home, and expects to live in five properties over the course of their life, according to new research from Zurich.

The insurer's study also found that nine per cent of homeowners have travelled more than 400 miles in order to move home, though 53 per cent of respondents said that moving was not an enjoyable experience.

The countryside was still popular with homeowners, with 17 per cent having already moved to a rural area and 18 per cent still hoping to do so.

"The British obsession with finding the perfect property is still going strong, with homeowners prepared to move hundreds of miles to find the perfect home in the perfect location," commented Zurich home underwriting manager Steve Gilbert.

"Homeowners should be aware that a climb up the property ladder has important implications beyond just the move itself. One in six (17 per cent) homeowners admit that making the necessary changes to their household insurance can be overlooked," Mr Gilbert added.

Price growth in the UK property market accelerated by 0.5 percentage points this month, Nationwide reported this week.
