Brits waste £39 each on unused tools

The average British man spends about £39 on tools every year but he is less keen when it comes to actually putting these tools to good use, according to a new report.

A survey by Rated Tradesmen has found that there are 3.5 million redundant screwdrivers in the UK because one in five Brits have never used one once they have bought it.

About 70 per cent admitted to actually hating DIY and preferring DFY where you get a tradesman in to do the work, but often they are bullied into DIY by their partners.

Andrew Skipworth, from the firm, said: "They would be better off downing their tools and letting skill come before ego by getting a decent tradesmen in to do the job correctly first time, which would save them time, money and the embarrassment of a DIY disaster."

Scottish men are the best at DIY while Londoners lag behind, according to the research, although one in five men reckons it is vital to have a bigger toolbox than his neighbour.
