Budget 'to introduce home energy incentive'

The budget on March 12th will see a new incentive created for householders to fit home energy generation technology to their homes, it has been reported.
Chancellor of the exchequer Alistair Darling will reveal that those with microgeneration facilities will be able to sell surplus electricity to the national grid, the Daily Telegraph claims.
The paper based this report on the statement by energy minister Malcolm Wickes on incentives which may be introduced to encourage renewable energy in an evidence session in parliament concerning the forthcoming energy bill.
Executive director of Greenpeace John Sauven welcomed the news, telling the paper: "Feed-in tariffs have been proven the world over to be the most effective and economic way of creating a successful renewables sector."
Those looking to self build their own homes may be further encouraged by such news and may decide to incorporate microgeneration devices into their houses.
It is already possible to get grants towards the cost of such devices from the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, the Energy Savings Trust advises.
