Building materials entrepreneur lined up for award

An entrepreneur who set up Britain's only building material re-use centre is in line for an award, it has been reported.

Daniel Hill, the founder of Tiger Enterprise in Newhaven in East Sussex, has been shortlisted for the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award at the South East England Development Agency 2007 South East Business Awards, the Eastbourne Herald reports.

The business, which began in 2006, has taken 311 tonnes of used building materials that would normally have been dumped in landfill sites and converted it to be re-used.

Mr Hill said: "Our service is potentially very important for the county's waste problem as the space in our local landfills is becoming more scarce."

People interested in the self build of their homes may consider using recycled materials if they are available.

The use of such material in construction is one of the sustainability elements in the London Olympics plan.

A target has been set by the Olympic Delivery Authority for 90 per cent of the materials from structures demolished to make way for the new venues to be recycled and used in the building of those same constructions.
