Building materials sector showing strong growth

Cement and building materials firms from across Europe continued to perform well in the first half of the year after a record-breaking 2006, it has been advised.
Standard & Poor's Ratings Services report found that strong markets across the globe helped fuel the rises, with performance likely to remain stable in the short term, the AFX news agency has reported.
Issues concerning energy and pollution could have an impact on such forecasts, however, the report noted.
VAT relief on building materials would be one way of ameliorating land supply issues, a Times columnist suggested earlier this month. It is also believed that a shortage in environmentally friendly building materials will soon be resolved as such products become more commonplace.
Meanwhile the influx of Polish tradesmen into the UK has meant that Poland may be forced to employ convicts to help build its stadiums and hotels in time for the Euro 2012 football competition, the Daily Mail advised last week.
