House builder George Wimpey has launched a campaign to help children learn about the dangers of playing near a building site.

The company asked children at a Scottish primary school to design posters that demonstrated the hazards and the campaign may make self builders ensure that their own building site is safe and secure.

Many families with children embark of a self build and the poster making was described by the company's sales manager Lynne De Herdt as a "fun way to drive home a very important message" about the dangers of allowing children to play near a building site.

Gillian Robertson, deputy head teacher of Borestone Primary School said the children have enjoyed creating the posters and will be excited to "see their work displayed around the safety fencing of the development as they are to be put to great use to advise the general public of the danger and to keep well away".

Health and safety is a vital element of a self build and each local authority will have a building control department that will act as an independent assessor of a project.
