Buildstore happy with planning reform bill

Self build company Buildstore has welcomed the announcement of the government's new planning reform bill, which will provide more relaxed planning rules to help house builders and homeowners innovate more with their properties.
The firm said that this would enable bigger loft conversions and extensions to be built, while removing the kind of lengthy delays that have dogged many householders' attempts to carry out home improvements.
It also noted that this activity was becoming more popular due to high house prices, with people opting to meet their rising living aspirations by adding to their existing homes rather than moving into new ones.
Tim Doherty, managing director of the National Self Build and Renovation Centre, commented: "As families grow and large detached homes become increasingly more expensive and hard to find, major extension and renovation is a simple way of adding additional living space and also increasing the value of your home."
One of the key stated aims of the bill is the establishment of a single independent infrastructure planning commission, which is intended to improve the workings of the town and country not sure planning system.
