Burglaries when you're on holiday cost £820m a year

Over one million holiday makers return home to disaster every year, according to a new report.
Halifax Home Insurance has found that quarter of a million Brits return to burgled properties which cost over £820 million in the UK annually while damage from water leaks and partying children also costs millions in necessary repairs.
Some 600,000 people a year come home to find vandals have attacked their property while 2.5 million people find their home has suffered a robbery.
"As well as making sure they are insured there are lots of other practical things that holidaymakers can do to protect their properties whilst they're away," said Vicky Emmott.
"For example, ensuring that the heating comes on during the winter can prevent pipes from bursting, and cancelling regular deliveries like milk or newspapers make it less obvious to a thief that your property is vacant."
You can also leave a key with your neighbour and ask them to check your property regularly.
