Call for self build project in Ulverston

People in the Cumbrian town of Ulverston could be set to use self build as a way of getting on the housing ladder.
Local organiser Geoff Dellow has called a meeting at a pub in the town with a view to forming a self-build co-operative, called Affordable Housing Action, the North West Evening Mail reports.
Mr Dellow is keen that a piece of land should be gifted to the townspeople for such a project, which would then see talents and labour being pooled to produce the homes and overcome local affordability problems, stating that while he was able to buy a home for the equivalent of his annual wage 45 years ago such a move would not be possible now.
He told the paper: "I am fed up with hearing people whinge about house prices yet doing nothing.
"But there are always people who help others who help themselves."
The town of Ulverston lies on the south coast of Cumbria overlooking Morecambe Bay.
It is famous as the birthplace of Stan Laurel.
