Cameron gets a trendy turbine

David Cameron, the leader of the Conservative Party, has applied for planning permission to put a wind turbine on his home''s roof in London.

He says this will test the green implement to see if the capital city is windy enough to make it cost-effective.

This is part of his party''s Quality of Life policy review which aims to improve the current building legislation in order to encourage greener homes.

Amy Fisher, the spokeswoman for the Conservative Party, said: "We are in no position to implement or announce any policy now, but this indicates how we want to encourage people."

Some department stores have begun selling the fashionable turbines for about £1,000 but local energy installations can actually increase property values and push homes into higher council tax brackets.

Recent analyses of wind turbines say they save homeowners around £100 a year with the electricity they generate, although tax increases eat into this profit.
