Carrillion buys McAlpine for £572m

One of Britain's largest support services and construction companies will be created with the news that Carillion is to buy Alfred McAlpine for £572 million.
The purchase will creates a company with annual sales of about £4.7 billion and will give Carillion direct access to raw materials used in construction.
"There is an excellent strategic fit between the two companies and the combined group will be one of the UKs [curly] leading support services businesses," Philip Rogerson, Carillion's chairman, said in a statement.
It is thought the purchase will generate annual savings of around £30 million.
Carillion, based in Wolverhampton, is already Britain's second-biggest construction company.
