Changes to microgeneration grant procedures

Before applying for a microgeneration grant you now have to get planning permission in what has been named as a streamlining move by experts.
The Centre for Alternative Technology says that this will prevent grant money becoming tied up while people seek planning permission or fail to get it, when other people could have received the much sought-after cash.
"Heating, which has always been the most popular [improvement] will continue to be the most popular," said Lucy Stone, an information officer from the Centre for Alternative Technology.
"The other thing which has always been popular to apply for, but which I don't know if you'll get the planning permission [for], is wind turbines."
The other change to microgeneration grants which has been made is that now you have to implement energy efficiency measures, like giving lofts insulated or low-energy light bulbs, before you can get a grant for further work.
"It's so much more beneficial to save energy than it is to generate it," added Ms Stone.
