CIH research to aid government targets

The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) has been commissioned to examine land supply issues in preparation for helping deliver affordable housing, it has been announced.

The institute, in conjunction with Oxford Brookes University, will look at ways in which the government's target of building three million new homes by 2020 can be achieved.

All areas of the supply chain will be looked at, the organisation has revealed, as well as the attitudes of developers, planning departments and other landowners.

"There is no greater barrier to the delivery of more, affordable homes than shortages of available land. We expect this work to play a part in unlocking supply by improving understanding between our delivery partners - local authorities and affordable housing providers - of how best to manage residential land supply," commented CIH deputy chief executive Sarah Webb.
