Co-habiters ''argue over home improvements''

Co-habiters

One in ten arguments between co-habiting couples is caused by unfinished DIY and building projects, according to new research.

A report by the Living Together Campaign highlights issues felt by co-habiters and shows that home improvement is a tough topic if just one member of the couple is enthusiastic about revamping the home.

If one partner ploughs lots of money into doing up a home then they have no way of getting a return on this investment if their name is not on the deeds to the property.

Yet 55 per cent of couples believe they have the same rights as married couples upon splitting where concern property, but this isn''t true.

Mary Webber, from the campaign, said: "Of course people don''t want to think about splitting up, but discussing all eventualities can be as much about making a show of commitment, as about anticipating the worst."
