Completions 'take longest in south-east'

Buyers in the south-east of England wait the longest amount of time between having an offer accepted and completion of their purchase, a new study from Alliance & Leicester Mortgages has found.

One in four movers from this area waits between four and six months, the study found, compared to less than one in ten in Scotland.

The research also found that one in 12 buyers is prepared to move during December despite the already hectic nature of the Christmas period.

"With so many people moving into their new homes during the run-up to Christmas it can feel like a rush to get the family settled and the new furniture ordered before December 25th," said Alliance & Leicester director of mortgages Stephen Leonard.

"Clearly planning ahead, budgeting and saving are the key to a less stressful move," Mr Leonard added.

First time buyer enquiries fell for the 11th month in a row in October, according to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
