Conservatives enlist Allsopp for home-buying review

The Conservative Party is to conduct a review of the property-buying process with the aid of Location, Location, Location presenter Kirstie Allsopp, it has been announced.

Ms Allsopp will help advise the party on ways in which the process could be simplified, with members of the public also being encouraged to provide their opinion.

The presenter, speaking to the Observer newspaper, criticised the "complex" system of purchasing a home within the UK, which she said had made the UK "an international laughing stock".

Ms Allsopp was also critical of the prevalence of gazumping, which affected 12 per cent of buyers over the past year according to a recent study by the Motley Fool, as well as Home information packs (Hips).

"'All I want to do is make it easier for home buyers. If I had had a call from John Prescott or Ruth Kelly or Yvette Cooper, saying, come and talk to us, if they had realised the Hips were a mistake, I would have done so," the presenter told the newspaper.

The Conservatives announced earlier this month that it would scrap Hips were it to come to power.
