Contentious greenbelt building awaits fate

A council planning committee is being encouraged to call for the removal of a building near Sheffield last year which it is thought is being used for accommodation purposes.

Last year, permission was granted to allow a series of animal shelters to be constructed on greenbelt land some 160 metres from the Peak District National Park.

However, while the Cold Mountain Stables were created on site, a larger wooden building was also developed for living purposes.

According to a report compiled for council viewing, the accommodation is an "unacceptable" building, "which is detrimental to the open character of the greenbelt, an area of high landscape value and the Peak National Park", reports the Yorkshire Post Today.

Council staff are being urged to remove the building on the plot, including its concrete base, wooden decking and balustrade.

Council officials are also being encouraged to assess the human rights of the people living in the building.
