Country housing prices ''also rising''

In the latest high house price news it seems even country pads are proving elusively pricey with many people now looking towards self-build as a more affordable alternative.
Property consultancy Knight Frank produces an annual country house index which this year reveals that prices for country homes have surged by about 3.1 per cent over the last quarter which equates to about 11 per cent over the year.
A three bedroom country cottage now sells for about £547,000 while farmhouses and manor houses have risen exponentially too, showing that it isn''t just London properties which are getting more expensive.
"London has been booming for 18 months, and we are seeing that money finally come out into the country," Liam Bailey from Knight Frank told the Guardian.
He added that one way of possibly getting a cheaper house is to buy a wreck and then renovate it. However, this is getting very popular too so you should be prepared to take part in a sealed bid process.
