CPRW calls for more affordable housing

The Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales (CPRW) has said there needs to be more affordable housing in the countryside.

On the eve of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the body, director Peter Ogden told the Western Mail the issue was one of the main challenges facing the Welsh countryside and its people.

Predicting a rise in the rural Welsh population due to increases in local food output and leisure interest, Mr Ogden said: "The substantial growth in the rural population will allow small towns and villages to thrive after decades of decline."

Those living in rural Wales and looking to ensure they have affordable homes to live in may consider the self build method to meet their requirements.

Mr Ogden mentioned that one aim of the CPRW is to safeguard against poor design, something self builders can help do by taking care over how they build their dwellings.

Meanwhile sister body the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England has released a report calling for rural development to be concentrated in existing settlements rather than new ones such as eco-towns.
