Cutting edge eco features make homes green

New properties are increasingly featuring cutting edge ecological aspects as home builders are looking to more sophisticated methods of building in a sustainable way.

Double glazing may be fairly standard these days but in 2007 more homes are being built with timber frames instead of concrete, brick and steel ones.

Bio fuel is also being gradually utilised in new homes, mainly in south-east England, for use in power heating systems because it reduces carbon emissions

Rainwater is being collected and used for toilet flushing in some homes while in others low energy lighting and waste compactors are standard.

The Energy Performance Certificate will be mandatory from July 1st so there is all the more reason for home builders to act now and make their homes more green.

Peter Bolton King, from the National Association of Estate Agents, told the Indpendent: "Most people wanting to buy property at present have no idea how energy-efficient one property is compared to another.

"However, once the energy rating is available and people can draw comparisons, it will become an issue."
