DEAs 'let down by the government'

Domestic Energy Assessors [DEAs] feel "let down" by the parliamentary under secretary of state for housing and planning's pronouncement that Home information packs (Hips) will not be fully rolled out until market conditions are right, it has been claimed.
The Association of Home Information Pack Providers (AHIPP) has said that Iain Wright was heckled by delegates when he made the announcement at the AHIPP annual conference earlier this week.
Mr Wright had said that problems relating to the credit crunch and subdued house price growth meant that Hips were on hold for one and two bedroom homes until an unspecified date in the future.
"[DEAs] felt very let down by the government, and the implications of stalling on a full rollout are having a real impact on their livelihood," commented AHIPP director general Mike Ockenden.
"I would like to see no further hesitation in laying down the final commencement order.
"This will be to the benefit of first time buyers and those people trading down from three and four bedroom homes. It will also ensure that carbon emissions from our homes are reduced," Mr Ockenden added.
Hips were introduced for four bedroom properties on August 1st, and three bedroom homes on September 10th, following an initial two-month delay brought about by a lack of available DEAs.
