DIY accidents soar over Bank Holiday weekend

If you did some DIY over the long weekend then beware because a 60 per cent surge in home insurance claims for bodged jobs is expected by one company.
Lloyds TSB says that year after year, Bank Holiday weekends trigger a rise in claims for accidental damage and some of last year's comedy capers include a toddler who painted a newly laid living room carpet and a man who sliced through his bedroom carpet with a Stanley knife.
Other misdemeanours include a woman drilling through a gas pipe and causing a nasty leak and a dog becoming stuck to a newly varnished floor.
Phil Loney, from Lloyds TSB, said: "May Day Bank Holiday can spell disaster for DIYers.
"We're urging anyone who's getting out a paintbrush, drill or stepladder to be extremely careful. Unfortunately, sometimes accidents do happen and it's then that having the right insurance cover can prove invaluable," he added.
