DIY show influence 8m Britons, research claims

New research has shown that millions of people in Britain have commenced home improvement operations as a direct result of a DIY television show.
Shows such as Changing Rooms, Ground Force, Property Ladder and Grand Designs are responsible for nearly eight million homeowners picking up their toolbelts or paintbrushes, it has been revealed.
DIY is not easy always though, as shown by the near-six million people who have admitted to some form of DIY debacle in their home, according to the statistics from Confused.com.
More half a million people have also had to claim on their home insurance as a result of their botched handiwork so it is essential that the correct safety precautions are undertaken, according to Simon Lamble, product director at the company.
However, Mr Lamble said: "It is great that so many people have been inspired to undertake home improvement work by DIY programmes."
New figures released by market research group GfK show that people in Britain spent £752 million on DIY and home improvement in July.
