DIY shows help out victims of hurricane

DIY television shows are helping victims of the New Orleans hurricanes learn about the process of rebuilding their homes.

Paul Davis Restoration and Remodelling joined forces with the hit US television show Dr. Phil and DIY Networks DIY to the Rescue programme to help rebuild the home of New Orleans pensioner Marion Camp.

A number of episodes of the show have been produced that will reveal how Ms Camp''s home was rebuilt after being virtually demolished during last year''s hurricane season.

The complete transformation took two weeks and involved a number of helpers committed to ensuring that the 78 year-old long-term New Orleans resident would finally be able to return home.

Howdy Russell, director of marketing for Paul Davis National, said: "We rebuilt the house from the ground up, including the foundation. It was necessary to raise the house slightly to confirm with current building codes. We rebuilt and replicated the previous structure as much as possible."

"Hopefully, this project will stimulate additional hope and goodwill in the area," he added.
