DIY turns house into arty masterpiece

One man in Brighton has been transforming his home with some DIY Renaissance art for over three years.

Robert Burns, a 59-year-old decorator by trade, has revamped his 1960s council house into a 15th century living masterpiece using art books carting the works of Botticelli and a loads of DIY emulsion paint.

The dining room of his Brighton abode now features a nativity scene which appears three-dimensional due to trompe d''oeil clever painting techniques while all the landings have been daubed with a faux marble effect.

Mr Burns said: "Whenever I am bored or don''t have any work on, I add a bit more. It stops me going barking while I am waiting for the phone to ring."

He said traditional paint jobs such as rooms painted magnolia are a bit bland and he prefers the complex and colourful designs of the Sistine Chapel despite never even visiting Italy.

His wife Linda fully encourages the past time and says she wouldn''t move house even if she won the lottery because the house is full of so much work and hard slog.
