Dundee house prices 'rising rapidly'

There has been a recent surge in house prices in Dundee but this is not due to more buyers, but down to properties in the city "catching up", according to experts.

Ken Mitchell, the chairman of Edinburgh Residential estate agents, says that the city areas of Dundee are getting especially popular at the moment and the Scotland House Price Monitor also indicates that Dundee, Aberdeen and Edinburgh are all seeing price surges.

"Dundee doesn't have a rapidly expanding population [or] employment. And Dundee is simply now catching up with property prices," said Mr Mitchell.

"I don't think there are more buyers than ever; I just think there are now people paying more money because you're paying for what you're supposed to pay," he added.

In Scotland, the single survey scheme is mandatory unlike in England where Home Information Packs are set to come in some time in August.

"Hips are a good idea as a safety blanket for people who are buying blind [in England]. There's no professional body actually helping them along. But we [in Scotland] do help them."
