Eco-homes may provide self build template

New eco homes with an older look that may provide a template for self build enthusiasts have been unveiled.
Two homes consisting of one building divided into two flats have been constructed by the Raven Housing Trust in the Surrey village of South Nutfield, the Green Building Press reports.
The cavity between the walls has been heavily insulated while being covered with brick and clay tiles.
Other eco-friendly features include triple glazing, underfloor heating and a heat-recovery ventilation system.
Housing Corporation director for the south-east, Fiona Cruickshank commented: "This has been a most interesting visit seeing homes that have a traditional look while encompassing high energy efficiency."
Such a home may be the preference of self builders who wish to create a traditional home appearance rather than a futuristic one.
In a separate report in the same magazine, a row of timber-framed Scandinavian-style eco homes have been built in Eastbourne, this design being the kind others looking to create their own eco-home might like to use.
