Eco-homes under threat

Plans for new eco-homes in a number of locations around the country have come under threat from opponents of the schemes.

A plan to build one of the towns at the site of the former Waterbeach Barracks in Cambridgeshire has come under attack from locals, who have formed a pressure group to campaign against the plan, Cambridge News Online reports.

Local Councillor James Hockney told the portal there would be a problem with traffic congestion if the 10,000 home development went ahead, as well as spoiling the rural ambience of the area.

"People move to a village for a reason. The residents do not want a new town on their doorstep," he said.

In another development, planners in Suffolk are likely to refuse planning permission for an eco-friendly hamlet between the villages of Barsham and Ilketshall St Andrew near Great Snoring, the Beccles and Bungay Journal reports.

Those wishing to live in an eco home may wish to self build their own rather than hope for proposed major developments to pass through lengthy planning applications.
