Eco town controversy grows

Property
developers involved in the planning of eco towns are expected to be told to improve their proposals by the Eco Town Challenge Panel.
It is the panel's job to choose the final sites for the proposed eco towns after 15 were shortlisted earlier this year.
The panel will help developers strengthen their bid for approval over the coming months, housing minister Caroline Flint stated.
"I expect bidders to raise their game by taking on board the expert advice available to them, to make the most of this unique opportunity to deliver the affordable, greener homes our first-time buyers and young families desperately need," she said.
However, the associate director at Huddersfield-based Above & Beyond architecture and interior design, Martin Booker told the Yorkshire Post that eco towns do not provide the answer to current challenges in the property market.
Those who want to live in an eco friendly home but are concerned at the possible problems with eco towns may decide to self build their own eco home, or renovate their existing one to make it greener.
