Eco town opposition continues

The campaign against an eco town in the east Midlands has gained momentum with a fundraising event adding hundreds of pounds to a war chest aimed at funding legal fees, promotional material and employing specialist planning consultants.
A barbecue attended by 85 people raised £800 for the Campaign Against the Stoughton Co-op Eco-Town (Cascet), which is opposed to a proposed 15,000-home development in Leicestershire, the Harborough Mail reports.
Cascet is seeking to raise £50,000 to fund its activities and says it now has £40,000.
Another group, the Weston Front campaign, is seeking to stop another of the proposals, at Weston Otmoor between Oxford and Bicester.
Members of the group met housing minister Caroline Flint when she visited the site, the Advertiser reports.
Those who may have their hopes of living in an eco-friendly home through the eco towns project dashed by successful campaigns against the plans may look to self build their own eco home instead.
