Eco town plans 'favoured by public'

New research released has claimed that a high number of people in the UK would welcome the creation of eco towns.
The study, which was unveiled by housing minister Caroline Flint, said that 46 per cent of adults are in favour of the developments, while nine per cent are against the move.
Moreover, 58 per cent of those polled noted that they do not think enough affordable properties are available in their area.
Ms Flint asserted that the findings are fairly overwhelming and that the planned towns would be a fantastic addition to the country.
"The process is open, transparent and inclusive and we will be testing every detail of the proposals with local authorities, stakeholders and local communities themselves," she commented.
Another consultation period of the towns is due to start, the politician highlighted, with residents able to offer queries via consultation.
The renovation of homes already in place could be better than building eco towns, the Federation of Master Builders has stated.
People who do not want to wait for the creation of eco towns may wish to build their own environmentally-friendly properties.
