Ecohome to be

A partially underground ecohome is to be raffled off as part of a prize draw with tickets costing £25, it has emerged.

The £845,000, three-bedroom self build home in Cheltenham was built as part of the Grand Designs television show and the winner of the raffle will get the keys to the property, according to the Telegraph.

Tim and Zoe Bawtree said the draw will only go ahead if enough tickets are sold to cover the asking price, stamp duty, fees and a donation to Cancer Research.

Mr Bawtree told the newspaper that some of his friends though he was "crazy", while his wife added that for just £25 someone could "find themselves with a mortgage-free step onto the property ladder".

According to the newspaper, the home - which is half underground - was built using "highly-insulated polystyrene and concrete construction".

It is understood that the couple must sell 40,000 tickets for the draw to be successful and the raffle idea appears to be catching on as a different way to sell high-end, unique properties.

Earlier this month, the owners of a four-bedroom restored chapel also launched a similar raffle campaign, according to the Shropshire Star.
