Edinburgh confused over greenbelt rules

A mooted development in the west of Edinburgh has been urged to be provided with some clarification.

According to Pamela Grant, development director of the New Edinburgh Limited Partnership the potential development of a Royal Bank of Scotland headquarters at Gogarburn has been identified as being developed along similar lines to that of the proposed Edinburgh Planning Framework.

Ms Grant said that the building on greenbelt land should only be given the green light if there was no other way that a developer''s requirements could not be accommodated on another plot.

Speculating that projected requirements were "already being met with existing planning permissions", Ms Grant urged the Scottish executive to be "to be clear in its definition of what constitutes ''international business development''", reports the Scotsman.

The New Edinburgh park, as well as being home to a variety of businesses since it opened in 1995, can also be accessed by its own rail station, which was opened in 2003.
