Elderly offered DIY guidance

Elderly people are being offered DIY guidance thanks to a new loan scheme.

The scheme, which is being operated by Framework Housing''s FIXIT initiative, provides practical help to elderly people wanting to borrow tools in order to complete DIY activities.

Elderly people who rent council, private or housing association accommodation, as well as homeowners, are among those eligible to take advantage of the DIY scheme.

Joy Cotton of FIXIT said: "Some of the people who use FIXIT now feel confident enough and have the skills they need to complete DIY and other household tasks without staff support.

"But due to the very low income of some of the people we work with, they simply do not have the tools they need to do these tasks."

Ms Cotton went on to add that the scheme gave elderly people greater independence and the "ability to live independently within the community".

The scheme was made possible thanks to a donation of £400 worth of tools from B&Q in Arnold and Boots Athletic Rugby Club.
