Elmbridge mayor urges self builders 'to visit'

Fresh from being selected as the best place to live in Britain, the Mayor of Elmbridge, Surrey, continues to champion the area as a "first-class location".
One of the key goals of a self builder could be picking the perfect plot in an ideal location and Councillor Nigel Cooper claims Elmbridge enjoys close proximity to London and the benefits of "acres of common land and three rivers".
"Our residents can enjoy the countryside whilst having High Street shops side by side with designer boutiques," he said.
AMA Research claims that that around seven per cent of all new homes produced in the UK are self build, while this figure is close to 60 per cent in certain parts of Europe.
The report blames the low number on the lack of available space and plots but with recent reports of developers looking to offload their land in the current economic climate, these figures may change.
