Energy assessor road show begins in Leeds

People in Leeds are today being invited to find out about the latest European and UK legislation to help tackle climate change.

The northern city is the first stop on a government-sponsored whistle stop tour of the UK where people will be told about the new Energy Performance Certificates and how they can get a new job creating them.

From June 1st every home going up for sale will have to have the document which details its energy efficiency properties and says what home improvements can be made.

Austin Baggett, head of UK energy efficiency professionals, said: "The market demand for these new energy professionals is growing in scale and urgency as every week goes by."

He estimates that the country needs 1,500 qualified energy assessors by June because 1.5 million certificates will be needed every year.

The road show continues onto Southampton, Liverpool, Cardiff, Birmingham and London.
