Energy Performance Certificates 'still important'

With all this talk of Home Information Packs (Hips) and their gradual phased-in delays, it seems Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) have been forgotten, despite being part of the Hip.
Some 27 per cent of the UK's carbon emissions come from the home and so EPCs could well play a massive part in helping to control the UK's total carbon emissions by warning home owners of the worst energy efficient homes before they might purchase them.
Andy South, from the UK's biggest EPC provider Niche Communications, says: "Happily, I can report that we have had a tremendous response from estate agents who recognise the value of offering EPCs as part of their marketing pack to vendors."
He said that the firm is confident that in spite of the government's actions, EPCs will make an appearance in June (albeit voluntarily and in small numbers) and he called on the government to make EPCs mandatory as soon as is feasibly possible regardless of whether the other areas of the Hip are adopted.
